Our Story
Surf City Ocean Pier has been anchored at the heart of Topsail Island since 1952. What started as a simple wooden fishing platform has grown into the island's most beloved landmark — a 900-foot stretch over the Atlantic where locals and visitors come to fish, connect, and breathe in the salt air.
We've weathered hurricanes, rebuilt after storms, and kept the pier open through every season. Because the pier isn't just a fishing destination — it's where Topsail Island community happens.
What You'll Find Here
Day passes, rod rentals, fresh bait, and a tackle shop stocked for the NC coast. The pier fishes well year-round — king mackerel in summer, red drum in the fall, flounder through the spring. Staff at the bait counter know what's biting and will set you up right.
Non-anglers are just as welcome. The pier is one of the best sunrise spots on the island, and dolphin sightings happen almost every morning. Bring the family — kids 6 and under are always free.
Our Season
We run events and tournaments from spring through fall — the King Mackerel Classic, Flounder Frenzy, and our ReelKidsFish family tournament bring hundreds of anglers to the pier each year. We're also the community gathering spot for Fourth of July fireworks viewing and late-summer sunsets.
